Taipei nightlife: Cheers Lounge Bar and Restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan If you have not booked, take our advice: go in with your fingers crossed and a purposeful stride. There is a high risk of not finding a table. The stools at the bar are really cute and trendy but sinking in an armchair with a nice glass of wine is quite another story.
Inside the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taipei, on the ground floor, we bumped into Cheers. It is one of the poshest and at the same time friendliest lounge bars that we happened to visit recently.
Its customers are elegant, businessmen who mingle with the local public, and there is live music too: a repertoire of classics that marked the history of contemporary music. The music selection is very refined.
Both the drinks and the atmosphere are cool. The lights are so dim that in order to read the menu the waitresses had to help us out with an extra light. The same goes for the money. If you pay cash, be careful not to get confused: the New Taiwan Dollars in the darkness all look alike.
If you want to taste the menu à la carte make sure you check the restaurant hours: you will not be served after 9.30 p.m. The first time we missed it just for a ten-minute delay. The menu offers an interesting combination of Chinese and Western dishes. Wine selection as well as service is excellent. And that will do, as far as compliments go.
